Common questions
Answers about getting a quote, choosing materials and planning the work.
What information helps with a quotation?
Share your postcode, the type of work, approximate area, access, existing surface and any photos. Mention slopes, standing water or drains so they can be discussed.
Can I compare paving materials before deciding?
Yes. Consider how each option looks, how the area will be used, the preparation it needs and the expected maintenance. Ask about samples and the full written specification.
Will the old surface be removed?
Ask for removal and disposal to be listed in the scope. Whether the old surface can remain depends on its condition and the proposed new build-up.
How is rainwater handled on a new driveway?
Water management depends on levels, surface area, the ground and the selected construction. Agree a site-specific drainage approach before work begins.
Do artificial lawns need care?
Yes. Remove debris, address spills and follow the selected product’s care guidance. Pet use and shaded areas may need particular attention.
Can a new fence follow an uneven boundary?
The design may use stepped panels or another layout, depending on the level change. Confirm posts, gates, the boundary line and how the bottom edge will finish.
What should a written quote contain?
Request the proposed work, preparation, materials, price, payment terms, waste removal and any agreed timing assumptions. Ask for clarification before accepting.
Is an enquiry a contract?
A call or message starts a conversation. Review the trader details and the proposed written quotation before making any agreement.
Where can I read about consumer rights?
See our consumer information page for general guidance. The information and documents needed for a particular job depend on how and where the contract is agreed.
